Things are starting to gel better in my class. I can even say that I like some of them a little. It has a lot to do with all of us disliking a particular individual. It's a fact that was even taught in my management classes. An abrasive, arrogant, and difficult person will create stonger bonds between the people he works with. It also turns that person into an outsider that is generally hated. In our case, that person is Shawn. Shawn is from WI and fresh out of high school. When introducing himself the first day he used the phrase "my Dad" 3 times. "I live with my Dad", "My Dad owns a race track", "I helped run my Dad's business". He's accustomed to being listened too and obeyed not because he's a good leader but because nobody wanted to piss-off Daddy. Currently, he's a cook at a Denny's or some shit. So, of course, he also knows absolutely everything when it comes to cooking. This might seem like an unbearable combination but since he knows everything he doesn't listen. So today, since he didn't listen, he had his burner going full blast and burnt his pan fryed chicken. He doesn't listen when it comes to making cuts either, which are always the wrong size. He assumes that he's doing it right and never asks for instuction. We have a practical exam next week on out cuts and he still thinks that his coquette potatos are the best in the class. Nothing brings people together faster than being able to make eye contact with the person next to you and smirk about the clown in the back.
Today he was in charge of clean-up and he really made a display of his true colors. He was bossy and vindictive. He barked out orders and even used "shit" several times. Using a mellow voice along with "please" and "thanks" got me through my day in charge and nobody hates me yet.
I was invited to go out on the lake with Travis yesterday. Neither Travis or Kristie called me when they said they would, they just stood me up completely. That pissed me off. Not only because I can't stand it when people don't call when they say they will but also because I expect a little more from a friend like Travis. Now I'll admit that I might be pestering them too much and that I'm being a little clingy, but jeez, at least call me to say that its not going to happen.

Many teenagers that have worked at chain restaurants believe that they are masters of the culinary arts. It's an interesting phenomenon.
It's like saying that my Deposit Ops job has allowed me to become an experienced financial adviser. :P
